On a telephone/electrical wire, i saw a bright neon green light spiraling down the wire? what was that?

On a telephone/ electrical wire, i saw a bright neon green light spiraling down the wire. It passed my car and in an instant, it disappeared around the corner and out of sight. It was moving really fast but i could still make it out quite clearly. I talked to my dad and he thought it was St. Elmos fire but i looked online and i do not think that fit that description of what i saw. Any one have any other ideas of what it was?|||There is no known electrical phenomenon that would have produced the effect you describe. The most likely explanation is that you saw a reflection of a green light from some source like a traffic signal or a railway signal, and it was given an exaggerated motion by the involuntary movement of your eyes.

Our brains are designed to recognize patterns and characteristic motions, and they are so good at it that we often see such phenomena when they are not really there. Faces in the clouds, eyes in ocean waves, and that sort of thing.

For an experiment, try looking at a cell phone tower or something else with strobe warning lights in the dark. Move your eyes left and right while the strobe light is blinking. The strange motion of the apparent light is the kind of eye motion phenomenon I am describing.

Have fun.|||UFO, refracted light from near by houses, airport lights, etc|||The green almost had to be copper wire being zapped by a spike. The plasma created was colored green by the element copper.|||Its something cool.

Contrary to popular belief, stuff happens and people don't know what it is and it can not be explained scientifically.|||I am going for a discharge of static build-up on the wire. That is, I think, St' Elmo's Fire.
