One car accident in snow~Collision Loss?

I got into an accident yesterday due to a careless driver in front of me, hitting his brakes too fast in the snow and ice, causing me to break, slide and skid off the road, hitting a telephone pole. No other car was effected just me and the pole. Can I claim this under collision loss? What is the deal with that, and does my insurance go up after this claim?|||That would be a collision loss %26amp; it is an at fault loss too. You will have to pay your deductible, then your policy will pay up to the actual cash value of your vehicle. If you did damage to the pole, your liability will pay the electric company %26amp; phone company (%26amp; possibly the cable company) for the damages. It will be a chargeable claim on your policy (unless you have first accident forgiveness which some companies do but you would have to ask your company that question) %26amp; normally surchargeable for 3 yrs.

Unfortunately, you cannot blame the person in front of you, even though he hit his brakes too fast - what if someone had run into the street in front of him, there are times when people need to brake fast. You were following too closely %26amp; driving too fast for road conditions.|||sorry, you are at fault for losing control of your vehicle, regardless of what the guy in front of you did.|||I agree with Sue!

Well put!|||This is a collision loss.

Your collision coverage will pay for the damage to your car. Your liability coverage will pay for any damage to the telephone pole.

This will be considered an "at fault" accident.

You were driving too fast for conditions. Even in bad weather, you are supposed to leave enough room between the vehicle in front of you and your vehicle - that the front vehicle can make an emergency stop and you are able to stop with out losing control of your vehicle or hitting the car in front of you. If the other driver was able to hit is breaks too fast but still maintain control of his car......but you lost control of yours....that means you were traveling too fast for the road conditions.|||Errrr.... this IS a collision loss. The deal is you will have to pay a deductible when you pick up your car after repairs are completed and YES -- there is a very, very good chance your rates will go up somewhat depending upon factors such as driving record, frequency of claims, age, etc.

P.S. -- the telephone pole will be covered (if damaged) under your liability policy.|||Yes this would be considered a collision loss.

Your agent would be able to tell you for sure if your premiums will go up or not
