What's the legal position of taping a telephone conversation without telling them&not revealing your identity?

A reporter investigating claims of fraudulent practice telephones a secondhand car dealer as a member of the public and records the call without informing the car dealer that she is a reporter or that a call is being taped. What is the legal position?|||In Texas, only one party to the call needs to know the call is being recorded.

If both parties know they're being recorded, there's no point recording it as evidence.

The law only prohibits recording a call if neither party is aware they're being recorded. That's eavesdropping and an invasion of privacy.|||in some states you only have to have the consent of one party to record a conversation in others you most have both but it was most likely illegal and legal action can be taken, the government records all phone calls and other data and do not need a warrant to listen in to conversations now days|||Depends on the state. Each state has its own laws on recording and video taping people without their consent...there are like 5 states that require notification. its not against the law to not reveal yourself as a reporter|||It is illegal to record a telephone conversation without notifying the other person. And that notification has to be recorded also.
