Do most mechanics replace deployed airbags, or do you have to take your car to the dealership?

It was rainy and I hit a telephone pole. My car looks fine, the pole was fine, I was fine. However, the impact caused my airbags to deploy. I hope someone can help me figure out what to do!|||Any reputable auto body shop can replace the air bag assembly. Most mechanics don't want to deal with them because they contain a small amount of explosive material.

Now remember I said reputable, don't just go to the first auto body shop you can find. Ask around and get a few estimates first. Most outfits are honest but they're a few shady operators who just might replace your air bag assembly with a dummy unit and charge you for the real item. It's happened before.||| In a way even though i don't like saying these words lol but take it to a dealer but call them up first and see how much it will cost to get a new air bag module. At least there you will get a new one and i know that at least mazda has new ones that they put in the vehicle. i get nervous about alot of backyard garages and there values when it comes to some things like air bag modules or transmissions. Plus i would think it would be harder for a mom and pops shop to obtain a new air bag module because its considered class 9 hazmat |||You should get a reputable place to do it after all it's your life that is on the line. If you go to some of these cheap places they will replace the plastic and rip out the bags and not fix them at all. Most mechanics I know won't touch them because they are tricky.
